    Very pretty!

BTW, how hot do Cattleyas like it? I'm concerned about baking mine in my southern kitchen window. It's only about 80 F outside during the days right now, but will soon be high 90's or even over 100 degrees. The pots get warm to the touch and I've had to move several other plants out of that window. Maybe I'll put some partial shade outside to keep it a bit cooler.

That is a gorgeous yellow, Roy! I can really see the influence of Rhy. digbyana in it. Carol, 90F is getting a bit too warm. That might be a good time to move them under a shade tree. In summer months air movement is an incredible asset. I try to limit any direct sun to very early or very late so the leaf temperatures are not elevated.

Ok, good to know. The plants are inside and the house is air conditioned, but it is pretty hot right in the window. I think I'll find a way to move them back. The pots and the leaves next to the window are definitely warm to the touch. I sure don't want to burn them, I have two coming into spike! I can't wait, one of them is new and I haven't seen it bloom before. The other I bought about 18 months ago in bloom and has bloomed once since, seems like a nice vigorous free blooming plant.

My everything, Catts, Vandas, Dends, Phals all grow in the one area. Temps range from 50f - 110f. They grow & flower as they want & don't want. Cost is the biggest factor in controlling cold temps. Above 50f is fine as a minimum, as the temps get to high extremes, shade & raising the humidty with good air circulation, the plants will handle it well. Dry air is the biggest killer of orchids.

Dry air I've got LOTS of that year 'round. I think my oncidium alliance orchids really don't care for it. My Phals and Catts are fine, though the Catts sit over a tray with water under them (not in it) or are S/H, which they seem to like a lot here. I was looking at the Catts in the South window today and they aren't at all burned looking or overly light colored. I'll keep an eye on them, easy to do where they are. When it starts to get really hot I'll probably move them a bit. I don't need counter space! lol
