Default Ascocenda RED and My Other Orchids in Bloom

I am thrilled because it's my first time to see its flowers. I didn't know what kind of vanda it was exactly when I rescued it from a friend's garden in August of 2012. My friend had somehow lost interest in her orchids and so I asked her if I could have her five surviving vandas, none of which were in bloom.

I never suspected this to be an ascocenda because the leaves are on the large side. I always thought it to be a strap vanda. But I could be wrong so please correct me if anyone here knows its exact identity.

Only two of its 19 buds have not opened yet.

Angel...you are such an angel to orchids. Much TLC is poured into the rescue orchids.

Its a very good decision to rescue it from thy friend. And definitely when he/she know how you took very good care of it, she will be very happy.

Thanks, Jervis. All of the five vandas are doing well and aside from this ascocenda, another one of the five is in spike now. My friend however, says that she suddenly misses her orchids. Well, I told her it would be cheaper for her to buy another set rather than travel all the way from Davao to take back her vandas. LOL

The bottom photo? Actually that is supposed to be in another forum because it is not a vanda, dendrobium, or cattleya. I have an old thread on it in Orchids of Other Genera. That is the Pteroceras unguiculatum. I bought two plants in 2000, from a Tiruray vendor from the hinterlands of Sultan Kudarat. It is quite big now and rewards me often with fragrant bunches of flowers.

Simple and yet alluring... like a Diwata / Dyosa in its own right.
