This is one of the hard cane dendrobiums. In my collection this kind of orchid justs sits and does nothing for ever it seems, kept dry in the winter, sprayed often in the summer. Suddenly. out of the blue, due to something unknown, it wakes up. A new growth - only one, but then its a fairly young plant, but three flower buds. They grow so fast - which means short-lived flowers of course , maybe 10 days, kept dry, longer if cool, shorter if warm . But as I have said in another posting, we have a had a warm summer ( unusually so for England) and nothing is cool. My greenhouse with all ventilators fully open, the double doors taken off, a pane of glass taken out at the closed end, and three sweep fans running 24/7 has not been down below 16 or even 20 at night, and in the low thirties by day, for over 2 months now. Lovely. But only 3mm of rain in 3 months - thank god for RO !

Geoff, are you sure, it's a Dendr. densiflorum. Post please a picture of the stem.

Herewith. Btw , I corresponded with the supplier - a Chinese (?) lady who runs an orchid trading establishment in UK, and who is I understand a relative of the guy who runs one of the Taiwan nurseries. She often has superb catts - may do some of the German shows I suppose. She took up my queries with the grower in Taiwan, and came back assuring me that yes it is the albiflora form of densiflora - although IOSPE seems to hint that this is synonymous with thyrsifloprum. The cane is definitely square in cross section, but hard to see in a pic.

you are right, the cane of Dendr. densiflorum is square, but I still doubt if your plant is an Dendr. densiflorum, the surface is usually very smooth. Look at my plants

A nursery was selling Den. densiflorum var alboluteum, (alba). I obtained a plant & on flowering believed it to be a D. thyrsiflorum. I have & had a few plants of D. thyrs' & after some research plus records of my earlier plants all I can say is that I believe it to be Den. thyrsiflorum. Kew list of monocots list Den. densiflorum var alboluteum as Den. thyrsiflorum.
I see advertised a "pink" form of densiflorum?? this I can't quite believe.
