    Cool Lc. Christian Starr 'Tribute'

This plant has been a joy. I repotted it into a plastic bulb pan and it has been growing like crazy every since.

I was lucky to get such a wonderful plant of this hybrid. The flowers average about 3 or 4 inches across and while not a huge floofie it is a pretty one. It has been one of the easiest growing and blooming cattleyas I have ever had.

How do you grow it? Is it a compact plant?

It could be called a compact plant. But it does tend to have a rambling habit so I put it in a bulb pan type plastic pot. Bulb pans are not as tall as a standard pot. My cattleya get very high sun levels, high air movement, weekly sprays of fungicide, systemic bug stuff, and fertilizer. I add in micronutrients once a month. I am close to the coast so we usually have pretty high humidity in the summer (95% is common) and other than the few cool months we get here, my plants are out on the back porch. In the cool months they go into a greenhouse with excellent exposure from all directions but North. I have heard my growing method called "hardening off". It basically means the plants aren't babied a whole lot. They are allowed to get too dry, too wet and when I don't feel like fussing over them, they only get sprayed every other week. They have burn marks, yellowed leaves from too much sun and bloom like crazy. The only downside to the back porch is this time of year as the sun begins moving on me I have to move my shelves every few days to keep from absolutely burning their leaves off. That began about two weeks ago....

I have put my Catt.s either in a greenhouse or outside where they get high humidity and bright light. I am hoping for the best.

I love going out to the greenhouse when it's cold outside. Like my own private Eden.
