Default Broughtonia negrilensis x Laelia crawshayana and Laelia Endsfeldzii

    Hello!

I have been away because our orchids have been resting. I thought I could share some photos of our orchids today. We have a few more up our sleeves but we have to wait a little while for those, do enjoy.

The first is Broughtonia negrilensis x Laelia crawshayana. Last time, this orchid flowered, the purple colour was more diffused but this time, it was more defined.

Laelia Endsfeldzii. This Brazilian beauty is very small, about 2.5 cm in diameter. We have four out of five flowers in bloom right now.

We are still waiting for the last flower to open.

The hybrid is registered as Laelonia Dave's Dapper Dandy - and it sure is!

The taxonomists have done it to you again - the species is now considered to be Cattleya endsfeldzii.

Thanks with respect to the Broughtonia hybrid. We bought it as Broughtonia negrilensis x Laelia crawshayana from Seagrove a couple of years ago and I had no idea it had been registered by anyone else than Joe Francis as Laelonia Dave's Dapper Dandee. Yes it is Dandee, not Dandy, according to the RHS International Orchid Registry. Now it has a name. Thanks.

Laelia or Cattleya. I don't really care about that when it comes to the endsfeldzii. It is different for Cattleya purpurata, which was a Laelia, Sophronitis, Cattleya until some common sense set in and it became what it always had looked like, and a huge Cattleya.

Thanks for your help. I will 'correct' the name in my little orchid blog. As you can guest, my hubby (Arne) is more in touch with orchids. When he tells me how names has changed, I get pretty confused. ANYWAY, I'm learning!
