Default Rsc Ports of Paradise ' Gleneyrie's Green Giant'

I have posted pictures of this catt some time ago. It was then Blc Ports of Paradise and now the name change to Rhyncosophrocattleya (Rsc). 2 famous clones of Ports of Paradise are var 'Emerald Isle' and this var 'Gleneyrie's Green Giant' (aka 3G) both of which are FCC AOS and a Taiwanese var 'Ching Hwa' which has an AM AOS.

This variety is very easy to grow, very hardy (almost impossible to kill) very free flowering and usually with 3-4 flowers per spike. And as befits its name the flowers are huge 7-8 inches across. It starts off green and turns yellowish-green after 10 days or so. Form is not great but it has the most gorgeous frilled lip.

I've always had an inexplicable attraction to green flowers, so PoP 'GGG' has always been a favorite of mine. Your photo is magnificent.

    A comment on Blc/Rsc...

Blc. (Brassolaeliocattleya) - Brassavola x Laelia x Cattleya - when registered in 1970.

Rsc. (Rhynchosophrocattleya) - Rhyncholaelia x Sophronitis x Cattleya - after RHS accepted Rhyncholaelia instead of Brassavola for 2 species, and accepted Sophronitis for most South American species that had been Laelia.

Rlc. (Rhyncholaeliocattleya) - Rhyncholaelia x Cattleya - currently, with RHS acceptance of Sophronitis and South American Laelia as Cattleya.

Blc. for traditionalists. Rlc. for realists. Rsc. for contrary individualists. They all work.
