    Default Dendrobium crumenatum

Today Den crumenatum is blooming everywhere in my district as well as the neighbouring districts. The sudden drop in the night temperature (about 10 deg F) has resulted in simultaneous blooming of colonies of them on the big trees in towns and countryside. The flowering occurs usually 9 days after the temperature drop.

I found this dendrobium blooming in one of the pots in my shade house. I can't take any credit for this as the clump grew in one of the old pots, the plants germinating from seeds that must have been brought by the wind. The fragrance of the flowers can best be described as heady, very strong and almost overpowering. The flowers last only a day - from morning to dusk.

Orchids just happen to germinate, grow and bloom in your shade house with no effort on your part... That is so unfair!

I have a D. crumenatum, but mine is still quite small. Yours are well grown (you should take credit for them anyway! )

They smell nice, too, if you get close enough.
