    Default Rhy gigantea 'Red Spots'

This is the first of my 'giganteas' to bloom. After looking at Sriram's and Natali's pictures from the Tamiami Show I reckon our blooming season here is rather late. In the next few weeks my other giganteas will come into bloom, the reds, the white (the var 'Petotiana'), the peach, the orange and hopefully the 'Carrot'. This var 'Red Spots' (the name on the tag) should more appropriately be named 'Red Blotches' . hahaha. Any way this year the colour seems to be more vivid than previous years ... maybe just my imagination.

Wow. Looks awesome. I think this variety is called 'Plai'?. I am looking fwd to the other color varieties. I managed to get a variety called cartoon in spike and would take another 2-3 weeks before it opens.

I have one of this but it is in spike and it's called Rhy. gigantea 'Plai'. I can't wait for mine to open up! Congrats on your beautiful blooms.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I'll try to take pictures as and when the giganteas come onto bloom. I'm bleary-eyed from looking and sifting through the 2300 pictures I took on the recent 2 week visit to Nepal in Dec .... so far have been able to whittle down to around 300 acceptable pictures and these may take bit of editing to be reasonably presentable. I'll try to get the total down to less than 200 to be printed in a photo book.

Unfortunately, though I saw a fair amount of orchids in Chitwan National Park and the hills around Dhampus, they were all not in bloom and therefore couldn't ID them except for the Genera. There were plenty of Bulbophyllum, Dendrobium, vandaceous esp Aerides and maybe Rhy retusa, epiphytic Cymbidiums but didn't spot any terrestrials. I wish I could make another trip in the spring to see the rhododendrons and the orchids in bloom.... my eldest son was so impressed with Chitwan Nat Park that he is making another trip there this March.
