    Default Dendrobium speciosum

I have had this orchid since 2009 and it has never bloomed for me, when I was given this there was no ID tag and the person that gave it to me had been doing a landscape job and was told to take it without knowing the species. I had taken a picture and posted online asking what anyone thought it might be, everyone who responded thought it was a Schomburgkia so I have been caring for it as per Schomburgkia care instructions. I knew it was the wrong information when I saw this plant in bloom at the Taimaimi Orchid Festival last month with about 40-50 in bloom spikes, mine was only in spike at the time. It is nice to know after close to 6 years what I really have. Enjoy!

Beautiful Den with so many flowers--Love it-well done--I'm sure the wait was worth it.

It was well worth it!! Any orchid is worth the wait to show you the first blooms no matter how long.

I pinched a a large piece off my mothers plant she had growing under some gum trees.I took it home potted it up it multiplied for 10 years and didn't flower so I thought this thing is never going to do anything so I put it to one side and forgot about it, no water only what the sky produced and no fertiliser just a lot of neglect. The following year it ended up with 5 flower spikes on it. So this one definitely thrives on neglect I have now divided it and got 5 divisionsName: 2015-02-07 08.27.50.jpg

Very nice!!! This is an Australian species and is the backbone of the group of hybrids that some call "Aussie Dens". I have some that are not flowering size yet. They like a cool, dry winter's rest with no fertilizer during that time. I have been told that in Australia they are left outside until a frost is predicted. Hope this helps. Congrats on blooming it!
