Cool Ascocenda Memoria Thian Chai x Vascostylis Mishima Lime

The name's long version... (Ascocenda Memoria Thian Chai x Vascostylis Mishima Lime) #9

The flowers have a wonderful scent however, if photographed in the shade they look awful. If I let the sun light the flowers up they are beautiful with the tessellation. I was fortunate with this plant as it loves to bloom. I recently cut a lower section off that was mostly dead roots and it is looking much happier. This is one of the best bloomings so far.

Excellent. Some how don't see a significant contribution from ascocenda in this, does it bloom often?. from the leaves and flowers, see a pure vanda parents and certainly a tessellata as a main dominant strain in this.

It blooms every chance it gets. It takes a few months off after a while and rests, but then gets right back to blooming. It began throwing tons of new roots after I put it in a new wood basket recently. Now this lovely spike. I'd say this is one vanda that likes to be fussed over once in a blue moon.

I agree. Theoretically, the math is:

    From Ascda parent: 25% Asctm + 25% Vanda = 50%
From Vascostylis parent: 12.5% Asctm + 12.5% Vanda + 25% Rhy = 50% (According to American Orchid Society, Ascda x Rhy = Vasco)
Even though Asctm and Vanda contributes similar percentage for genes but perhaps Vanda has a dominant characteristic.
Lovely orchid by the way. Love it

Bright and cheerful. The tessellation is a big plus.
