Default Vanda Robert's Delight 'Garnet Beauty' FCC AOS

This is another large flowered Vanda with blooms 4 1/2 inches (11cm) across. It is not the most free flowering of vandas for me - only 1 or 2 bloomings a year. Depending on the quality and direction of the light the colours are very variable. I think the colour of the blooms in this picture is closest to its 'true' colour - at least, on my computer screen. 9 flowers on the spike.

    Nice vanda Yew-Sung!
    My noid looks like yours
I assume you grow outside, do you use shade cloth? I grow under lights and someone from local OS suggested put it outside, but I don't have good place for it so it will be shaded from 11 to 3. so im thinking to by shade cloth for it is 30% would be enough?
    Thank you!

Thanks for liking the vanda. I'm sure any advice from me re growing of your orchids would not be of much help as our climates and growing conditions are very different. I grow all my orchids outside 24/7 under 70% shade cloth (used to be 50% but switched to 70% when 50% was inadequate). Here the day temperature is always close to 100F and nights are in the mid to high 80s; rainfall is over 100 inches a year, with 3 dry months from Dec to Feb, and humidity from 80 - 100%. I think that late spring to summer in your place is the only time that you could take your orchids outdoors. Friends in your local OS would be the best people to give you the right advice. Any way congratulations for being able to grow and bloom vandas in New York.

So it was advised by local member, for warm time only not the whole year. But the only spot i can put it outside to get most of sun will be from late morning till evening. So i thought to put shade cloth and was wondering what percent i should buy
