Default Vanda Robert's Delight "blue nopporn"

I had 13 orchids but needed to make it 14. I could say it's even numbers I like, but I guess I don't really need a reason to buy an orchid. A very nice manager at a nursery near me let me have first pick of the vandas that came in today. He helped me open the boxes and let me dig through them. I felt like I came in as a customer but left as an employee because after I started pulling them out I started arranging them on the display that I cleared for them. It just felt wrong to leave them in the box. They are in very large clay orchid pots and are the largest vandas I have personally seen. The roots on mine are spilling all over the pot. I finally settled in vanda Roberts Delight blue nopporn but almost purchased the Ruth Carpenter or the Vanda sanderiana x doctor Anek. I plan to soak the roots in a bucket of water Name: image.jpg

Size: 102.1 KBto hopefully get it out if the heavy clay pot as soon as a basket arrives via mail. It's inside tonight but am slowly going to introduce it outside.

The first flower is not fully opened. I hope the others decide to open and not blast due to stress.

You may have to sacrifice the pot to get it out.

Thank Harvey. Jervis I will definitely take more pictures when the blooms open more.
Sriram hehe how did you know there would be more ?. I'm planning on buying two more lady slippers. I would like Paph Onyx ( goultenianum x maudiae) and Paph Pinocchio ((Paph. primulinum x moquettianum). To complete my wish list I would like a Bllra Marfitch Howard's Dream or Ruth Carpenter and the crowning glory in a few years a paphiopedilum fairrieanum but only when I'm able to get my slippers to bloom a few times.

Harvey I really do think you are right. There are so many roots I can't see down even a little into the pot. I'm betting they are stuck to the pot especially at the bottom.

Traci, I think you can grow them as is in the claypot. they would love it that way. The clay pot keeps the root cool. repot it only if it is really required. I am growing a few of the V.coerulea in clay pot and roots are growing like crazy.

All of us are in the same boat, our lists are endless and so is our passion to get new plants every week!!.

Sriram, I do like it in the pot. Do you just soak the pot in water every day ? The label said to water 2 to 3 times per week which doesn't seem enough, but the roots are green and not silver so maybe in the pot they require less watering?
And yes our lists are endless. I added Dracula Transylvania to my wish list last night.
