Default Pot. Susan Fender 'cinnamon stick'

Okay. After trying to control the high temps and humidity with fans and proper placement to prevent sun burn, I finally got one of my plants in my small greenhouse to flower. Yes. it came from a sheath and actually produced a flower. I have more with beautiful large sheaths that I am hoping will make it.

    Beautiful!

If I might ask, if you have a greenhouse what do you have for shade cover on that greenhouse? I am in south Florida, I keep all of my orchids outside with a 70% Aluminet shade cloth that blocks the direct sun over my shade houses and they do not sunburn and all my orchids love the high humidity we have which is a lot like New Orleans. My only difference is I don't have fans my back yard, 95% of the time, gets good air flow.

I use 50% shade cloth positioned so that it blocks out the hottest part of the day while allowing morning and evening sun brightness. With 70% shade cloth how do your plants do and what type of plants do you grow?

Currently I have 193 orchids in my collection which includes; Bulbophyllum, Catasetum, Cynoches, Cattleya, Dendrobium, Epidendrium, Myrmechophia, Oncidium, Paphiopedilum, Phalaenopsis, Vanda and a variety of other species. All of my orchids seem to do just fine under the 70% shade cloth, I know that a lot of the Orchid growers here in south Florida also use the 70% shade cloth on their greenhouses. The Aluminet cost a little more money but it also blocks out a lot of the heat, some manufactures claim it will reduce the heat from 7-14 degrees, well worth the extra cost.

Beautiful colors. Might I ask about the other plant (a fern?) growing with the orchid? I sometimes see other types of plants growing in the same pot with some varieties of orchids. Does it help the orchid somehow or is it just a happy companion?
