Always love when I see this dendrobium in bloom. We have it growing mounted on a basket and in a small pot. Both plants like neglect (limited water in the winter) and produce loads of blooms in the early spring.

Cool! I have two of these. One with leaves like yours and one with very succulent leaves and thicker bulbs. Wonder if it's a geographical difference?

First off mine is no where the size of this specimen, I had two blooms last year and none so far this year, it did get a good winter rest, but we had lots of rain the early part of our winter season!

The water in the rest season will keep it from blooming well. I still water ours in the winter, but just a little. In the spring, summer, and fall, I soak it pretty good.

Must be or a cultural difference. Maybe yours is fed more often or gets better nutrients?

    Very pretty!

I recently acquired one from my crack source, I mean, orchid seller. And I hope it will bloom next season. It has one bare cane the rest of the canes have leaves and a number of keikis which I assume you just leave in place.

YEs, i just leave the keikis to grow and be part of the whole plant. The big one is covered. Sometimes they come off and I save them to give to friends for trades. I never remove them otherwise.

I just bought one a few weeks ago and it has one bud. I hope it will open soon. It has so many keikis and keikis on keikis that I can't count them. I hope to have a spectacular blooming next season. What are the winter lows it can withstand?

Our heater is set to 50F degrees in the winter. That said, the big one survived the polar vortex that froze about 75 % of my collection. I think it survived because it was dry and in the center of the greenhouse. I would not let it get below 45F ever.

    cheers,
