    Default Schombolaelia RIO's Fantasy..

Got this as a small seedling three years ago and this is the 1st flowering. Seriously needed repotting back in March but when I saw the spikes coming decided to hold off. It'll be an emergency when its finished blooming. Like the "in situ" shot more but the 1st is sharper and colour accurate. The tag also reads (Schom. thomsoniana v. atropurpurea x L.tenebrosa)

    Thanks for looking!

That's a distinctive flower, balanced shape, great color and lip pattern, probably close to the best potential for the cross. Myrmecocattleya in current registration. With the Schombo/Myrmeco ancestry I think it would be a good candidate for the technique of potting up by just slipping the old pot or basket inside a new larger one with little or no new media.

Thank you for your comment regarding the flower! I knew about the name change but decided to go with the tag. Keeps things straight in a feeble mind. I wish I could just slip this pot into a larger one, my favourite method of "repotting". The medium that it's in is rotten to the point of smelling rotten. Last time it was done I was still using 20% sphagnum for almost everything.

Thank you Harvey! I'd seen a couple of other folks pictures of this cross and wasn't sure I was going to like it.
