Very Nice! I have one, an alba, that has never bloomed. I still want to find more of them!

Ditto! Chris, I just made a comment on when you purchase an orchid that is NOT in bloom, you have no idea how old it may be.

...and if it's a young one, it could take years before it blooms. This is something that people fail to consider when they wonder why their orchid is not blooming. Other than lack of light and proper care, one should consider whether it has ever bloomed. If not ... this could be the cause.

Three weeks ago I was about to purchase a couple of cattleyas: Erin Kobayashi's Amy Chen in 2" pots from a local dealer. I made a comment that it will probably take 2 years for it to bloom and his reply was: Probably 3 or 4 years!

You would think that I would know this? But then it dawned on me ... Of course, these were grown from seeds, and these were probably just transplanted from plugs from a growing tray! Not the same as coming from dividing a full grown orchid! Duh!

Look for an old sheath to see if has bloomed previously?

Looks very nice. I have not seen a L.purpurata that has pink petals. Most of them I see are white.

Agreed. Only pink I've seen was a 'carnea' that was past it's prime, but that was only on the lip.

I bought a plant, C. Snowhurst, at our local orchid show in February from our society table. The original growers tag states that it was potted in February of 2009. If it was 3 years old when potted that would make it ten years old. There were 9 mature pseudobulbs but no old flower stems so it was obvious that it had never bloomed. The price was $8 so thought I'd give it a try. Three new bulbs have grown since and two are in sheath. Hoping for the best!

Can't wait to see the pics. Sometimes an orchid will have the right conditions to grow very well, but something is lacking that would be needed to push it to bloom. The most common thing I've seen that would cause this is less light intensity than would be ideal for the plant. The low-light will still be enough to grow (in most cases), but the intensity needs to be increased somewhat to get the buds to set. Those plants usually look darker green than their blooming cousins.
