I prefer the Euchile name for the genus - the flowers are nothing like any Epidendrum, Enyclia or Prosthechea that I know. T he bulbs and leaves do look like a small , or even miniature Encyclia - that is only a 7cm pot to be seen here , but then lots of other genera look just like that.

This is the best I have done in about 4 years of growth - highest number of flowers, best flowers. Now for some better growth - like two leads please ?
I grow with my cattleyas btw - nowadays.

    It is very pretty.

I know of a seller of this here in the USA. But I never bought it.

Very nice. I have killed this sp multiple times but managed to get 2 plants last month. I have kept it next to my Phals and seem to be doing ok.

The color and shape of the blooms make it very tempting.

Very nicely grown, as always Geoff. It was one of the first orchids I acquired 40+ years ago, and I have killed it several times. I hope I do better with the very healthy plant I just got.

Still most often seen as Encyclia. It got lumped there along with hundreds of other species that never should have been. I think someone broke under the pressure of removing species from Epidendrum but not being up to the work of actually sorting out where to put them. The current classification is either Euchile or Prosthechea, but there's no big argument about the relationship. Either Euchile is the closest cousin to the Prosthechea clan, or the half-sister within it that all the others are jealous of. I think RHS went with Prosthechea just so they didn't have to come up with names for intergeneric Euchile hybrids.

I agree, Geoff. The name Euchile for the genus doesn't conjure up the wrong idea about the blooms. When I think of Epidendrum or especially Prosthechea I have a pretty good idea what to expect. I don't really know Euchile, so always a discovery. haha... BTW - these blooms are beautiful. I like the split lip and green and white blooms. It looks like it would like cattleya level lighting. Good luck with the multiple growths next.

    cheers,
    BD
