Default Cattleya: Toshie Aoki 'Pizazz' Am/AOS

Went grocery shopping at WM and this followed me home. Tag Sez Toshie Aoki 'Pizazz', but could be 'Starburst'. Still can't figure out the difference. I have both, but my Pizazz lost it's buds before it could open due to heavy rain. Grrrr!

My 'Starburst' has two buds and should soon open up, but it's raining heavily and I just moved it into my porch. Fingers crossed.

Very pretty one! I don't often comment on Catts.

Looks very nice. Very good buy. 'Pizazz'/ 'Starburst' are cultivar names of this hybrid. There could be differences in the color. We will know once they bloom.

I just emailed the grower, and here's his reply:

    "Hello,
The Starburst has a darker velvet lip with Dark solid flares. Also the flower has a rounder more circular shape. Pizazz has a brighter yellow in the petals and more thin defined red flares. You can really see the difference in the colors when the plants are blooming side by side. I hope this helps. Reid"

I will post the Starburst here once the blooms opens up, then we can all check out the difference IF the first one is indeed a 'Pizazz'.
Hope it opens up before the flowers on these die, then I can take a side by side pix.

Thanks Guys. All the big box stores that sell orchids have given me their delivery schedules, and they've all said to get there (hopefully) at least a couple of hours after delivery and I will have a good chance of getting something worthwile.

So Sheryl, you may want to talk to all the nursery employees and get an idea when orchid delivery is and plan accordingly.

I just got lucky today, I had to get a Blood Test 7:00 am, and then to Wm right after. THE ONLY ONE LEFT!
The 'Pizazz' is a hard to find one and I've seen them go for $75.00 on the auction site. ...plus shipping! Ouch.

This one was $24.99 (why always .99 cents?) LOL

I guess they are afraid that no one will buy at $5.00?

My local orchid nursery, in Louisville, Colorado, had a Paph sale last Friday and Saturday. I got there at 11:10 to find that the shipment didn't make it out on the expected day so they had just received the order from Hawaii and it wasn't unpacked at all. So I was too early and missed them. When I went on Monday morning, (70 mile RT from home. so I visit on workdays as its only 8 miles from the office), there was nothing left in bloom for sale. Pretty much all cleaned out. So I still haven't bought an orchid in over 2 months. I have given several pots of Den keikis away during that time. I have more to harvest and pot up. Especially now that I have a couple of people that want some.

Unfortunately, the big box stores around here never have anything other than phals. Some Vandas here and there. I have no orchid nurseries near me. The closest is probably at least an hour. I get most of my orchids at the orchid show once a year about a half hour away. Have purchased a few online. Nice for you to have those options. It would probably get me in trouble!!!
