    Default Color Change in Catts

Many times I have seen posts by folks who see a picture and say they can't believe it is the same plant that the poster has claimed, because the color is different. Well, many orchids do change color (darken or lighten) as they age, and of course different hybrids look different. Here, however, is an example of a Catt with two different colored blossoms on the same plant. This is standard for this plant, but if someone saw only new or only mature blossoms, they would not recognize the other.

These blooms are on the same plant at the same time. The yellow ones have been open about 3 weeks, the others about 5 days. Golden Glory

That is intriguing! I heard that happens a lot with Richard Mueller crosses, i.e. B. nodosa hybrids.

what a coincidance! I just saw the same plant in flower at my friends house, and we couldn't figure out what is going on with the color change too.
The flowers are very graceful looking. I like it!

The color change usually indicates Richard Mueller parentage, as Hoa mentioned. I have a NOID Richard Mueller cross that opens almost yellow-green, and it deepens to a vibrant orange over the next several days.

It's very cool to watch! Nice blooms, Diane!

Whew. I thought my first "catt" was a little nutty. LOL! This is my Pot. Hoku Gem 'Sunspot'; the yellow flowers have been open for several weeks and the orange for a few days.

Pot. Hoku Gem is a cross of Slc. Tangerine Jewel x Bl. Richard Mueller.
