The breeder of the Burdekin line (plus a lot of other awarded cross orchids) was Sam Scallia. The wide petals & well filled in flowers is what is called for as an awardable or Champion Orchid in most cases in Australia. It is all about judging standards. Without wishing or wanting to start an argument over judging, many orchids awarded in the USA would be hard pressed to win a 1st place on a general meeting show bench here in Aust'. Not that there is anything wrong with the USA plants, I quite like some of them, its what happens.
The one that caught my eye as most similar when I scanned through OrchidWiz pics was Rlc. Burdekin Trader, but it is not a Burdekin A x Burdekin B. I'll probably take another look and see if anything Burdekin squared looks likely.

Judging at its best is about a standard, and standards can certainly differ. But it is also about what the judges like, and what they've seen before, and what's in front of them to choose from, and ultimately about what sells too since most breeders have to think about making a profit or at least breaking even. And always a little silly in the extremes. A champion Poodle wouldn't do well judged against a St. Bernard standard either. They can still both be great dogs.

There are 10 registered Catt hybrids that are Burdekin A x Burdekin B

    All are Rlc. now.

    Alice Bennett
    Bundy's Climate
    Burdekin Reward
    Burdekin Romance
    Burdekin Solitaire
    Deception Black Magic
    Druinn's Emma
    Druinn's Mum Druce
    Future Dream
    Glenlee Dream

I don't think you could rule out any of them completely for a result like this. The Burdekin breeding lines tend to be similar. The 3 Burdekins are S. Scalia crosses, the others aren't.

I love Blc. Burdekin Winder 'Lakeland' - big floofy white with yellow in lip. Pretty sure yours is not that.

Burdekin Wonder 'Lakeland' is a very nice Catt but there are a few a lot better. Hard to get though.

In your opinion, which ones are better, and why do you think so?

Not trying to stir things up, I just want your thoughts.

First of all I have to read properly, I went away & thought of Burdekin Bells, not Burdekin Wonder. Sorry about that but given that, Burdekin Bells, Mary, Rosco, Bethel, Burdekin & a Mauve one, John would give 'Lakeland' a huge run for its money.

After reviewing the 'burdekin' types, I notice a preference for a rounder looking bloom. Those have their uses for some folks, I guess, but I prefer those that are less round, and still have some of the wilder look to them.

I'm a species nut, and sometimes a primary hybrid nut, too.
