I have several plants of this species in my collection; thsi is the last example to be added - when I saw the size of the canes, about 4 times as big as I had ever seen before ( probably 45 cm high ) , I couldn't resist buying it . And since it has flowered so well with 5 spikes, I did the right thing. They have developed and opened, and in fact gone off ( the first of them) with tremendous speed , which I blame on our continuous wall-to-wall sunshine for the last two months, and the unduly hot tempefatueres for that time. Morevoer my other examples have flolwered earlier or much later - it does not seem to be particularly seasonal at all, so next time they may last longer. They don't open well either, so I have been looking at the plant with a camera in my pocket for quite a while, and eventually decided it was now or never.
The plant is only just starting its first growth for me, so almost certainly has a poor root system ; when the growth advances and new roots appear, I shall repot, and cross my fingers that will help the plant keep its flowers better next time around.

Lovely plant Geoff! I've read that worldwide, this has been the hottest year ever recorded. Northern Siberia saw temps in the low 30's last week.

I like its bright yellow colour and its hairy-like labellum!

And good luck on your new growth, Geoff!

One of the best species and is not that easy to flower here.
