Dendrobium sanderae

This is a discussion on Dendrobium sanderae within the Cattleyas, Vandas, Dendrobiums IN BLOOM forums, part of the Orchid Photography category; I thought very difficult to bloom but to my surprise bought 2 plants last year ...

    Default Dendrobium sanderae

    I thought very difficult to bloom but to my surprise bought 2 plants last year now rewarded me beautiful flowers.Clone 1, First and Second photos and Clone 2 the last two photos.

    Beautiful.. The flower shape seems a bit off to me for a sanderae. It looks very much like my parthenium. I think your plant might be a hybrid between parthenium and sanderae..?

    Hi Li I'm not that sure as the plant came from different sources the first one from Thailand, info from seller and the other one from Selangor both claimed as a sanderae, I have no idea as this is my first experience maybe you are correct.

    From memory there are maybe 4 different forms of sanderae - each coming from a different one of the Phillipine islands. In the past I grew and flowered two of them , but they were victims of my overheating problems some years back. Now I have 2 or 3 plants, but none yet flowered. All made much better canes than ever before last year, but that was true of so many things. Wonderful what happens when you get wall-to-wall sunshine for 3 months on end ! Maybe one or other will flower this year, maybe...
