Chris your plant could be more typical of the types growing in Rio de Janeiro. Iíve read they have a more dwarf growth habit growing in more extreme conditions. The species has a huge coastal habitat distribution. Could be cultural as well I guess but Iíll bet yours is naturally just shorter.

This is a loddigesii or harrisoniana Zain.
This is my intermedia alba. Some think it's Pine Knot, don't know, don't really care either.

Robb already given the info............here I dont used any media at all just allowing the new roots attach to the plastic pot. During this period I need to immobilize and regular spraying of water once a day( equator climate very hot) is more than enough ,should be under the 50% shade. Fertilizer twice or once a week is more than enough.

When I bought the plant I saw few flowers really beautiful I'm hoping the next season would be better as the plant is not established.

Roy you are correct maybe loddegesii or harrisoniana after looking back the lip character thanks for posting your beautiful intermedia alba, although the seller told me intermedia alba but the character of the lip remind me the above species.

Atleast we can have a name for the plant rather than a question mark Zainal.

Indeed Roy you already narrow down the species and I'm thinking more toward C. loddigesii. What is your thought?

According to my reading, quite a few cattleya species have highland and lowland forms with a big difference in the height of the bulbs/canes.
The only catts I have seen in the wild were lawrenceana, which looked so perfect it was difficult to believe they rrally were wild, although there was no doubt in my mind.
I have been promised a respite from my carer duties by some family, ( looking after my wife
has been pretty well full time for several years now -she has a terminal lung disease illness ) and it is almost 2 years since I last had a break. I have been looking at trying to see catts in the wild, and have found one chap ( who seems to be based at Tampa bay in US ) who visits Brazil several times a year and takes small parties - 3 or 4 people, but currently I am waiting for him to mention actual dates so that I can try to nail this down.
