Curiously, this plant flowered in July 2016,2017 and 2018, and now in March 2019. Most cats flower on the same date every year ( once they have settled in to one's conditions). Puzzling.
I have shown it before - it is a division from a plant in the French National Collection of Cattleyas ( grown by a certain Paris nursery, where I have been a customer for more than 50 years and have known 3 generations of proprietors - so that occasionally I get invited to tea if I just happen to be anywhere near - you can't see me rolling my eyes at this - and anyway the French idea of tea is so different from our UK idea as to be just droll - but that is another story.
But it is a real smasher ; an example of how poor digital photography is , with certain colours. In reality the colour is solid - no streaks, no bars, nothing of any shade other than an intense glowing purplish red.
I think this is my best flowering so far in terms of flower quality, and the largest flowers yet, too. I can make out the natural spread to be a shade over 11 cm , and various clones of the same grex have been awarded at HCC level with flowers of 11.4cm, and AM/AOS with 12 cm - and there is very little difference here.
My regret is that it is not a couple of weeks later , to coincide with my Society having its biggest ever show...I guess it may still be out, but not quite at its best by then.
