We have a lot of first in our lives but when you get to my age the first bloom of any orchid is about all that is left, so yes I do enjoy first time blooms, like a kid at Christmas, waiting for that bud to open, I waited a long time for this one but worth it!

I have one as well, and love it! Mine was in bloom when I bought it last year, and is in bloom now, but yours looks so much healthier. the leaves on mine are much paler/more yellow, with black in the leaf 'joints'. I was told that it is in too much light (there is no direct light, and hangs in my lanai), and that the black is likely mold that should be treated with peroxide. May be true about the black, although it has always been like that, and it doesn't seem to hurt the plant, although I would have expected more growth. I do not completely spray the plant with water - rather I water just the roots.

That said, I have had water quality/fertilizer issues, which I have now remedied, so who knows about this growth season.

How are you growing yours? It really is lovely! And congrats on flowering it!

Thanks! I grow mine mounted and it gets morning sun thru my 60% shade cloth. I have an irrigation system that runs every day for 10 minutes, I also use time release fertilizer and also fertilize every week now until fall when it gets put into winter rest with no water, except rain, and no fertilizer, It was worth waiting for it to bloom and I look forward to the next blooming.
