    Default Cattleya (Rlc) Ann Cleo 'Laina' - my favourite orchid this week....

    Bought as NFS size a couple of years ago , this is its first flowering. I expect/hope it will improve as time goes by, when awarded ( in Brazil and by AOS) the sepals - those three small petal-like things, were erect , larger than this, and a clearer white, plus the pink stripe. Then - as awarded, had a natural spread of 12.8cm, here shown it is 11cm. So not bad for a first flowering on a young plant.
    I love the depth of colour in that wonderful lip. In sunlight the two true petals are a very pale green, which makes a super contrast.
    All of which adds up to explain my enthusiasm.
    Btw. the varietal name is sometimes shown as Liana, but I think Laina is more likely to be correct.

    What a picture! Yes the flower looks great of course, but the quality of the picture is just amazing!

    I think the sepals are still developing. Maybe they are going to be straight after a couple of days.
