Uncommon in the wild although I have seen a few plants. Seems to be very popular as a hanging basket plant among the indigenous population - if you float around the backwaters of the river at Bangkok, you will see lots of houseboats, and as often as not, one or two plants of this species hanging up.
Maybe that's why its uncommon in the wild !
Does not grow as large as several other dendrobiums in the same section (S.densiflora) but always nice to see.

I can recall that if a plant is named for a lady, the ending is iae or ianum - so Cattleya mossiae was previously called Mrs.Moss’s cattleya ( at a time when botanists thought that all cattleyas were variants of a single species. And the latin ending of the genera and species match - hence cattleya and guttata for example, or mossiae in my example. If a man, then ii, I suppose.
Of course there are others - ensis as the ending, means from the locality of the same name. Dendrobium yunnanensis comes from Yunnan.
Just thinking aloud to remind myself.
