Dendrobium is a huge genus - maybe over 1500 different species, which can usefully be divided into about 40 sections - this one is in Section Dendrobium ( the first ones described in the genus form this section). In my experience these are very strongly influenced by light, as to the depth of colour in the petals and sepals - usually pink. If in less than strong lght when growing, the pink is paler, and even disappears completely. I label this as album, because there is no pink colour, but I am sure that if I could give it more light, it would not be variety album, but the usual pink form.
Interestingly, when seen in the wild ( I have seen it twice at different locations in Thailand) it grows on very tall jungle trees, standing well above the general height of the tree canopy, where it gets much more light than the average - and then pink flowered. So high in fact that I could only see to identify using the binoculars I carry for such purposes, and the pics I took need the full extent of my camera lens zoom - and then no close-ups like I show here.

I missed a trick with this plant - it was the Autumn Show for one of my Orchid Societies a couple of days ago - I did quite well with several plants I have shown here recently ( Phrag Sorcerers Apprentice, Catt Jungle Spots etc etc ) but had no good entry for the Dendrobium Class - I thought. Then today I started sorting out Dend's to put in a different structure to cool down and dry out for their winter rest, and found this one. I think - tidied up and i tied up - it could have won its class.
Ah well, you can't win 'em all, as they say.
