    Default couple of floofy Blc's

Blc. Jeremy Island 'Carmela' HCC/AOS, 2nd blooming on this one. can't seem to get more than one flower yet but this time it's much fuller, and much larger than before. luminous magenta-red, reflecting its distinguished parents (Bryce Canyon x Oconee).

Blc. Chunyeah 'Good Life' AM/AOS. first blooming and somewhat disappointing, with relatively narrow petals that flex forward. this cultivar was awarded at the 2002 NY show and it was positively stunning with outstanding form and size, so either this plant is a poor meristem or it just needs to grow up a little more.

some of my catts do that,at least this blooming season they did,the narrow petals.all were in bloom when or just before i got them and they were full like the top photo.under my care they narrowed and lasted a short time.Ill figure it out one way or another!!I always thought it was a light situation but from reading posts here im under the impression they should be doing fine because the dens are doing great.i always thought catts required more light than dens.any way they are beautiful colors i have one very similar to your top picture and a couple solid yellows .

Lovely! Carmela looks like pink ice and fire. And Good Life - the name says it all. The white edging on the lip adds a soft touch. Good growing!

    Hmm...

Comparing Jason ThirdDay's experience to Jason Money's comments, I'd wonder if ambient humidity might be an issue. Greenhouse-raised orchids typically enjoy a much more humid environment than home growing.

It certainly makes a difference with some plants blooming. The buds of certain types of Milts will not fully open if the humidity is too low - and they like high humidity.

Humidity and watering frequency are not the same, although sufficient watering during spike and bud formation is necessary too. I'd up the humidity if you think your flower form isn't up to snuff. See if it helps subsequent blooms.

Humidity rarely falls below 70 percent in my room and i mean rarely!!just ask my wife!!It usaly hovers around the mid 70s.and gets into the mid 80s,or even higher 90s plus at night if i dont switch the humidifers.watering can be an issue and i probably need to up the watering. Also feeding,i didnt feed much only once per month and at a weak rate.this is my first blooming on my catts, but not their first, since i got them. They did come from a greenhouse also and are now growing under lights and a west window so they are probably fussin about that,im hopin they will acclimate to my grow enviroment otherwise they will find themselves livin in new homes of rvo orchid talk peoples homes!!!
