    Default Name this Orchid?

Can anyone give me a name for this beauty? It was photo'd at Marie Selby. I love the color and the long tubular lip. Thanks for your help.

It's a blue form of a Cattleya...I can't say for sure which species....possibly lawrenceanum...can you recall if it had paired leaves or a single leaf atop each pseudobulb?

My guess would be Cattleya Portia var. coerulea you can do a google image search for the coerelean variety.
Here is my non-coerulean variety for comparison.
It is a primary of C. skinneri X C. bowringiana

I was going to say that it looks like C Portia (maybe 'Sir Jeremiah Coleman') and beautifully flowered too! Of course, I'm way slow being on the other side of the universe!!!

(2008 and miami just seems so far away....)

It's definitely a coerulea form of a unifoliate x bifoliate Catt. Bowringiana is my best guess for the bifoliate, but the uni could be several.

Jason's got a fine eye for Catt species - what's his take?

For that matter, Pat may know! Or could find out...

Good idea! Jason? Pat? I don't remember the leaves - I was so overwhelmed. I tried to get pics of some of the tags but some were out of reach. Thanks for your help!

    Yours are beauties, Ron!

Thanks Ron! Happy Australia Day to you too mate!

As for 2008 and Miami... a couple of us folks here are arranging a 'field trip' to the WOC.. so basically it's a great excuse to drink loads of alcohol with the added bonus of seeing pretty orchids!

Tami, sorry bout the hi-jack, but I'm sure you're use to it by now :P

Tami, it's a hybrid between bi and uni, so the leaves won't help too much. The clusters of flowers are a bifoliate trait. Typically they also have a very pronounced column (think of a big white nose!)

Unifoliates have the graceful coursage shape.

Your photo shows a bifoliate clump of blooms, but a very unifoliate-form flower. Not any big nose influence to see.

It's a neat teaser! A Catt IQ test!

I most frequently see walkeriana as the bifoliate coerulea species, but I'd expect more of a big white nose, so maybe not that.

Ok, other Catt fans - what do you think?
