Thanks, Tami and Cin! This wasn't the crappy one I hated. I willed that one to death. This is a nice, lovely one. And I'm thrilled it's blooming!

Kitty, did you withold water back in Feb as we discussed? And if so, how long before the leaves dropped and the new growth started? I'm curious how much of its "desired" winter rest it got before it set it's buds.

I did withhold water in Feb. until the leaves started to drop off, but as soon as they started dropping, I began watering sparingly. When all the leaves were gone, I began watering regularly. About two weeks later I started seeing the buds. I think I could have gone a little longer without watering though.

So it wants some rest, but it's blooming must also must be wired into daylight changes. I'm guessing the huge floriferous canes come from a well-watered, well-fertilized plant that can store the energy through the summer and fall to produce all the flowers the following spring. Mine started as a tiny keiki, so maybe next year I'll get a decent blooming cane. Thanks for the info! We've both learned!
