    Default Dend. loddigessii

Dendrobium loddigessii is a small orchid originally found in Laos and China.

This dend is supposed to have long-lasting, fragrant flowers, about 5 cm across and be easy to grow. It requires a dry rest period in winter to bloom in spring. Everything I could find on-line suggested that it should bloom from late February - early July.

Gin sent me this little division sometime last year. I never expected to bloom it so quickly. Is yours in bloom now too, Gin? For some reason, I thought it was going to be a yellow dendrobium. LOL!

    Cheers,
    BD

Wow, the flowers are bigger than the plant! Cute, fuzzy little thing, I like it!

I got a growth for 3 bucks and the plant is so tiny!
if it blooms next year (I'm another dend killer, but getting better) the plant will be dwarfed!

From all I can discover with a quick search on-line, this plant is supposed to be small. Called a 'dwarf' actually on a few sites. I did not notice the buds, but turned around and saw it in full bloom. Like I said, for some reason I thought it was going to be a yellow dend. I am not sure where I got that impression.

    Thanks for looking!

    Cheers,
    BD

That looks like the colour of egg yolk on the lip, very festive for the time of year.

I got a cutting from an old os member a few years back. It limped along for a while then started to grow then completely stopped and has been like that for quite a while now. Wish I knew why.

Contrary to all accepted culture, she grew hers wet year round. Bloomed for her every year.

Ours have been in bloom for a week or two. They were a dense mat a month ago.

Yeah, I'll confess to a bit of dend confusion as well- I gave my mom some of my kingianiums a few years back, and she didn't have the patience to repot it or anything, so she literally just stuck the roots in a cup of water...and it GREW like that! Bloomed lovely and everything! It was the strangest thing I ever saw...and made me feel quite silly, surrounded with my bark, mist bottles and everything...

    Maybe kingianiums just grow differently?

A nice Easter surprise, BD! Pretty colors, and the lip is so cute; like an egg yolk as Kerry said.
