Nice Ron - the queen of Laelias!

My var. Carnea has a bud forming in the sheath, and I'm hoping the var. Coerulea I picked up in NYC does something this season!

I've already commented on this beauty elsewhere but I also meant to ask Julie or anyone else who might know about the difference between 'werkhauseri' and var. coerulea? All I know is that they are both blue forms but not how to distinguish them.

    Such a nice, sharp photo.

and var. coerula a much paler 'blue' lip? That's what I've noticed from comparing some photos online but I never managed to find a clear, written description.

    Elena,

Photos of werkhauseri are easy to find. I only have the South American vendor's word that var. coerulea has blue on the petals and sepals, as well as the lip. I'm curious to see if that proves out. I convinced Qing to buy one as well, since this variety of L. purpurata is so rare.

As far as Web photos go, I'd bet that lots refer to var. werkhauseri as var. coerulea. Web labeling is notoriously inaccurate. That's not to say I didn't buy a var. werhauseri, but I can't wait to see how it blooms out. The vendor was quite sure of the difference.

Thnk you Julie. I remember you mentioning that var. coerulea is a lot more rare and I noticed some vendors selling what they call var. coerulea just recently so I wanted to know what the difference was. I have A. A. Chadwick's The Classic Cattleyas but he only has a picture of 'werkhauseri' which, as Ron already said, has a deally dark inky lip and doesn't really mention var.coerulea.

It's all very intriguing, I cannot wait til yours or Qing's blooms.
