Default Dendrobium Nale Bui (D. Ise x Princess)

I've had this one for a few years and it is REALLY easy to grow. It blooms twice a year for me--in February around Valentine's Day and then again in the summer, usually right before the 4th of July, but it's a little easly this year, I guess. It is a nobile-type crossed with D. moniliforme, so it is warmth tolerant. The smell is EXACTLY like Grape Sweet Tarts.

Gotta love anything that smells like grape sweet tarts! I'd never seen one bloom a few here and there like that one. Is that normal in that family?

    Thanks, Connie.

Yes, it is common for these type to bloom randomly on nodes on leafless or canes with leaves still. You just never really know where the buds will pop out, but the heaviest flowering occurs on the oldest leafless canes.

    Yea beautiful there.
really it can bloom twice a year?! I hope mine will bloom again, it does grow really fast. Mine bloomed in march (also posted somewhere here) and it grew a new cane already.

The longest canes on my Nalene measure about 15". Reduce watering slightly and aim for cooler night temps to get them to flower again in the late Spring.

After my Valentine's Day blooming, I wait until another cane or so matures (about 2 months worth of growing) then I limit water and NO MORE FERT (or it will just continue to grow).

After the late Spring blooming, I continue to let the plant grow and begin limiting water and fert after September.
