Yup, it lives on my living room windowsill. I've read that Princess Mikasas are very hardy and make an ideal first vanda. Mine seems to be determined to live up to its reputation

The third spike should bloom in August which will make it plant's third blooming in 6 months Considering the abysmal summer I couldn't be happier.

So beautiful. I love the violet color -- and you can't beat 16 flowers in six month's time. Whatever you are doing the plant obviously likes. Thanks for posting this beauty.

    Congrats Elena,

Judi - I think that the Mikasa blues are very easy - mine has been totally neglected, and I came back from holiday to find that having not been watered for 3 weeks, it was growing a rather healthy looking flower spike. It is going great guns at the moment, and I can't wait to see it flower. I am almost scared to water it very much just in case changing it's regime sends it into hibernation!

This is just gorgeous - and I can say that I can relate to your "I take care of it when it can" type of growing culture! lol I wish mine would send up blooms like this when I ignored them....seems like when I ignore my plants, they ignore me!! Oh well, hopefully I'll get some surprises this fall...

Thanks everyone! This spike finished blooming last week so I snapped that photo just in time. The third spike is getting fatter by the day, should see some more flowers in 2-3 weeks, I'd say

Kerry is right, Princess Mikasas are considered to be very easy and apparently make an ideal first vanda.

Elena -- since you grow on a windowsill, what media do you use for this baby? Is she in a basket that you mist often, loosely "potted" in some way? Please describe your magic.
