    gorgeous rich and smooth color!

connnie, N designates a set of chromosomes. most plants are 2N but people sometimes use the chemical colchicine to induce polyploids (3N, 4N), which *typically* produce larger plants and bigger, thicker flowers. some of these occur naturally in the wild too, or from natural "accidents" in gamete formation.

Aaron, your photo of this orchid in Orchids Through Our Eyes is one of my favs. But these pictures are also gorgeous! What a wonderful bouquet of purple blooms in the last pic. How big are the plant and blooms?
This one goes on my wish list.

Thanks all! Tmai, this plant's psedo's are around 3 ft tall, and the bunch of flowers is about the size of a basket ball! The flowers themselves are around 8i around. This is one of my favorite catts, and so far I have made 8 crosses usinf this plant on different schombs. Also, by recomendation of a friend I plan to have it judged at some point. I have seen many grape wax, but none compare to the contrast of color that this one has.

Geez, I'm sure it will be like 5 years or something before my plant blooms then...that is, unless it outgrows my space first! 3 feet tall p-bulbs...YIKES!

    Oh..and Aaron..

There was a name change for this little guy...

Cattlianthe Bactia = Guarianthe bowringiana x C. guttata and was registered by Veitch in 1901!

There have been so many name changes recently it's hard to keep up!

Just think of how genetically wrong we've been these years. It amazes me that once science gets a new tool how radically things change. DNA analysis really astounds me...

    Sophronitis purpurata *shakes head*...

So.... when are they going to start forcing people to change our names based on our genetics?
