Been having a rough time at finding enough time to read posts here lately. Department shutting down on or before 10/5 and I still haven't found a new job... EEK!!

I was very sad to find that these blooms, while taking FOREVER for the buds to mature, only last about a week before the sepals start to turn brown. But the scent got pretty strong so I had a room filled with Lily of the Valley smell... only sweeter. Oh well. All good things....

I have similar issues with Pot Burana Beauty. Flowers only last 1 to 2 weeks. Most of my minicatts last for about 6.

For black background, you might check a fabric store or craft store.

I use sheets for make-shift backdrops sometimes - large and can be one solid color. Plus I happen to have a black sheet set from when I was 15 and wanted to paint everything black!

I have also been known to make use of my boyfriend's shirts to try out different color backgrounds.

This one has a sheet in the background.

This one has a shirt in the background. Sheets are easier though because they are so much larger and it is therefore easier to not get anything but sheet in the shot.

Nice shots. I think I have some black towels around someplace, but they tend to pick up fuzzballs of other colors, which would make things look silly.... I have off-white sheets for the darker blooms, too, but my other issue is getting the right lighting. Mom keeps telling me she's going to get me a nicer camera for xmas, but I'll have to wait a couple more months on that. The flash on my current camera -- well, lets just say I can take 3 shots on a tripod without moving anything and the color variations on each shot are nothing alike. Maybe not the flash dying, maybe something in the camera, but still very irritating.

I'm trying!!! Thanks for all the suggestions!

Thanks! I'm trying to put a little more thought into my photos these days.

I am not really equipped camera-wise either, but since I am just toying around with light and stuff, it's probably just as well. I have a movable reading lamp that I have used to experiment with lighting and stuff since the flash tends to make the whites jump out too much, but I'm not sure it's quite strong enough.

Default Eplc. Mae Bly 'Ching Hua Splash'

I have 2 of these ,they are great, faithful bloomers ,large flowers and a great scent . the flowers are long lasting for me ,almost 1 month but that is in a greenhouse with good air movement . They don't take up much room since they grow straight up and flowers are held nicely above foliage.

    Nice.

A fabric store can provide a host of options for black or colored backgrounds. A small piece of cloth can easily be taped to a wall, draped over a table (or other object), or suspended from a string or wire.
