I actually thought we made it through winter until this frost came.... it was 26* Thursday morning!!! Ice everywhere, so I knew it was bad. But, like you said most will come back ...

    Hi ya'll
Haven't been here for awhile... lost quite a few orchids from the frost.... still hard for me to go into shadehouse.........
I keep watering & will wait until April to start throwing out "dead things"....
Some of the yard plants have started growing from the base of the plant......... firebushes & sunflower trees, ...Amarylis is blooming..
Some orchids did put out blooms just before frost.............
As dark as it seems I've learned a lesson & will continue to grow
Hope ya'll have had good winter

I try to post my 'current' blooms by the month. I've kept it up for 2 or 3 years now, but the current crop is kind of pitiful. For the first time I've been having trouble with aphids, and they show up any time something sets buds. I might also note that this year we have not had hundreds of lady bugs swarming in the windows. I usually scoop them up and toss them in the greenhouse. This year we have hundreds of wasps instead.

    Hi everyone
Well, it's now April & it was 52 degrees this morning!!!! What is up with this weather??? This past week it was gorgeous & warm, almost like summer. I finally got up the nerve to start assessing my orchids & throwing the dead ones on the compost heap What a depressing job. I also had to deal with the guilt of throwing out some of my daughter's orchids. She moved & couldn't take them with her, so I am "babysitting".....
But, on a happier note, I found some bloomers My Lc. Trick or Treat, Enc. Hereford Jewel & Enc. Alatum along with Tracy's Maxilarria Tenuifolia & her Den. Loddigesii is full of buds.
I learned a very valuable (& expensive) lesson & on the bright side, I now have some extra space for new orchids

    Hi Val,

It's a little nippy here in Broward County today too.

I'm so sorry you lost those orchids. This past winter has been strange here in Florida, that's for sure. Luckily, it's not the norm, although I prefer cooler weather to the heat and humidity of summer.

Anyhow, just wanted to say hi, since we're practically neighbors.

Beautiful blooms Val. The Lc Trick or Treat always provides a Treat!

Oh and the photos are just amazing... so clear!

I know what's it's like re composting those dead plants.. i did the same (though it was more like autumn clear out here) last weekend. And I had to throw out a Paph China Moon (which is an armeniacum cross) aaah well, thank goodness it is the start of the show season woo hoo....

Hi Val. Sorry about the compost plants. But, like you said, now you have more room for healthy ones! I love your new photos!

    Cheers,
