    Question My Dendrobium Questions

I'm not sure what is going on with my dendrobium. I dont even know what kind it is, but I've had it for about a year and a half. I'm just now posting a picture of it. Its growing new canes and all, but when does it flower? One of my canes leaves are turning yellow, but it is an old cane. Its November now.. when will it bloom? I have re-potted it about a couple months back because it fell over. There we're good and bad roots. I cut the bad ones off, soaked it, then re pot in fresh bark/mix. It has grew two new canes in the last year, and ones still in growth.

Don't worry about the old leaves turning yellow. It will bloom next year on the new growth that you are seeing now.

This kind of den will not bloom without enough light. Your leaves are a little green, you may want to set it in a brighter window. I finally got a batch of my dens to bloom this summer by changing their location. I moved them to a very sunny corner porch that still has good afternoon shade. Once they got lighter green and were sporting a few burn dots I began to see spikes. And I agree with the above, it is normal to lose a few lower leaves from time to time.

Join the club of Dendrobiums with no blooms. I've had mine for 3 or 4 years now with no blooms, granted mine had only one cane when I got it, so it was probably too small. Now it has 5 canes, and I think it is spiking; either that or it's growing a keiki. I've also been told it needs more light, so if it doesn't bloom by summer, I'm putting it outside.

hey thank yall for sharing. i have not been on in awhile and i have two new canes and it is growning like crazy but has stoped growing this last few weeks. but the newest cane is getting really fat at the very base by the medium.... is that maybe i swollen cane about to spike hopefully? i have been trying to burn it up and giving it plenty of water. i am seeing nice light red striped along the canes and edges of leaves. and have good roots comming out of the top arounf the pot now,. will this dendro bloom from the top of the canes or the sides? pretty sure top right because it is a evergreen??????

i am not an expert..but I am under the impression that once they lose their leaves and canes become 'naked' One should water Less as this is when either flower buds form or keikies?.. & you start watering + fert more when you see they are buds and not keikies???????
I hope a Dend 'expert' steps in...I do know theres many types with cool and warm ones and they like different growing conditions..& it can be confusing

i have listened to cjcorner i belive on the dends.. they love all the light you can give them direct sun all the way till about 1:30pm then really bright indirect sun after. and i realize they like more water and food then most people say. just a good all in one orchid food. and mist the leaves and media every morning and afternoon.. i keep my media pretty moist on hot days. and soak them about twice a week if the weather is right. im a beginner but have really been into this one dendrobiums culture and if u keep the humidity and light up it will thrive.. my spike is now 3 inches long and cant wait lol i have had the dendrobium two years and bought it with no flowers for 12$..
