I just booked a flight to LAX for July 18th. Heading out to the other coast to visit my oldest friend in the world.

Now I have to get organized. There's so much to do; not the least of which is to make arrangements for someone to take care of my orchids while I'm gone, or to have them placed in the trees outside (which might be a better idea at this point).

I don't know how long I'll be out there. Booked a one way flight, and will just book a return when Karen and I have had enough of each other. After 54 years of being friends, we're very comfortable around each other. I will get to visit my brother in Escondido while I'm out there too, and I think a trip to Balboa Park's botanical gardens just might be on the agenda.

It would be great to meet up with some of you Southern Californians while I'm there, so just drop me a PM if you'd like to do that, and we'll make some arrangements.

:D

Looks like after losing all its blooms at one time (scared me bout half to death when she did that), I see a new growth on her. Probably a root? But could it be a keiki? There had been one of those before, that I made the mistake of removing. It's still hanging in, but not doing anything, including growing new roots (the keiki I mean).

So, as usual, I still sometimes have trouble deciding what type of growth I'm looking at. That white ring at the stem made me think root, but the rest of it sort of resembles the way I see new spikes starting out on other orchids (although they aren't Vanda types).

Attachment 20369

So, pardon my ignorance, but maybe someone here will be able to tell me what I'm seeing. I guess a very long root soak this morning sure didn't hurt, huh?
