    Talking Updated AV pics

    The flowers are really popping now.....I think they just needed a little tlc.

    Sorry the last pic is blurry, I used it because the colors in that picture are closest to the pink of the flowers. Most don't show how both of them sparkle.

    They ARE pretty! I like all the varieties of African Violets you can find now. So many to choose from, even some with varigated foliage.

    The reason I even gave these (originally) sad little plants a look was due to the low low price of $2.39 apiece. I had to try because to me they just looked abit peaked due to being dryed out. They are still rewarding me with lovely blooms. I stopped to buy the African Violet food and ended up with a new dendrobium as well. lol Some days are better than others...eh?!

    Thumbs up

    Hi all!

    I am reviving this thread because, despite my best intentions, I found a you-can-not-pass-me-up African Violet on sale today, and its gorgeous dark blue color just took my breath away. $4 here in NY is a STEAL.

    After reading through this AV post, I will keep it in my east-exposure window, water like a phal or maybe a little less - but keep it drier as opposed to wetter. Any other advice? I've never had an AV before and definitely appreciate any help! Thanks!

    Don't get water on the leaves. I have the one that Diane gave to me growing on my kitchen windowsill and I left the windows open a few weeks ago during a rain storm. It rained in and where the water got on the leaves, they turned brown and ugly.

    Cheers,
    BD

    Water on the leaves is typically only a problem if;
    1) the water is cold
    2) the leaves are still wet with the sun shining down strongly on them

    The AVs in my terr get water on the leaves whenever I water as I just dump the water over them. No problems.

    Must have been sunny after the rain then. It happened really quickly too.

    Cheers,
