    Ron,
You are making me "homesick" for Negros. I think I told you that I lived in Guihulgan (on the Oriental side of Negros just south of San Carlos), Bacolod and La Carlotta on the Occidental side. Wow! So many memories. And there are so many waterfalls like that--just tucked away and pristine. And the buko--oh that is good stuff. And your photos of the beach and the children--so many wonderful memories of great people.

And I remember why I got hooked on orchids there--they were just spectacular and everywhere. Congrats on your new purchases. I'm sure they'll thrive for you.

just wanna share some moments of our latest trip around negros. we started in tacloban and travelled by bus and boat via cebu to dumaguete, sipalay, bacolod and back. this way we got to see the stunning beauty of negros with coasts and mountain ranges.
we had a great time visiting friends, finding places, local delicatessen, listen to different languages and collecting plants for myself, which hopefully thrive in my garden after this stressful journey for them.
for more info you can pm me.

hope you enjoy as much as i did,

to start of with my first nun orchid (correct?) i saw,
    2. a rock orchid ( local name), i let my girlfriend pose next to it to show that size, and 1 leave was as heavy as 1 vanda,
    3. our friend showed us a japanese museum on the way up to the mountains, a secret tip and absolutely fantastic!

I'm looking at the photos you posted and I'm starting from the first ones in the first message you posted.

The first photo, I think belongs to the Phaius family .... a Phaius tankervillae maybe???

The second photo, I think that might be a Vandopsis Lissochiloides. This are really HUGE plants and can grow to be a very tall giant and as high as 5-15 meters high! Very bright, yellow-orange-red colorful flowers, medium sized.

16 - white spotted vanda appears to be either a mokara or aranda hybrid.

    20. finally the yellow one i was running after
    18. I don't think that is really a native cattleya. It is a Brassavola species and not native to the Philippines - must be a propagation by division from a collection. Might be a Brassavola nodosa ... not sure. If it gets fragrant at night might be a nodosa or a hybrid from it.

    Hi there BD,

now that you mentioned it .... i mean the "dream" of wanting to visit my beautiful country, the Philippines ..... I would suggest you visit the Batanes group of islands when you are here. It is absolutely paradise over there .... of course, no orchids over there but the place is fantastic and the scenery all around you is breathtaking! There is only one catch though and that is - the best time to visit the Batanes group of islands is during the summer (non-rainy/non-typhoon) season ( I guess that's around March-May) because that province is located on the northernmost tip of the main island of Luzon and is open to the Pacific Ocean and China Seas .... so you can just imagine if you visit that place during the typhoon season! Whew!

By the way, Batanes is part of the UNESCO list of world, cultural sites so being on that list you can just imagine what a beautiful place that must be.

I'd like to post some scenic photos I have here of Batanes, Philippines but I don't know where. Can I just add them here? I think Nelsons' (NTG) photo in the Introduce yourself-A pic of yourself was taken in Batanes - just shows you a slice of that beautiful, wonderful place!

    Cheers!

    hi jojo,

thanks for all the id's, think you nailed it.
first one is commonly called "nun orchid",
second one really grows on rocks, just like on my pix and others i saw.
third one, im a little disappointed that it isnt a native cattleya from negros, but what the heck, im happy to have a new species anyway!

    cheers
