Here are some pics from the our recent trip to Balboa Park in San Diego.

A cute orange orchid. Possible an encyclia or epidendrum.
The pseudobulbs and leaves remind me of brassia though.

This one blew me away. Such a spectacular display for such a relatively small plant.

    This is another pretty one.

    This cattleya needs a shave.

Large psychopsis. The picture is a bit washed out by the sunlight.

    Assorted displays:

Two different plants in one pot? or dimorphic plant?

    Here's a set for the pond/lily fans.

You're making me want to go on another trip out to California. Just might have to start making plans.

Other than the zoo, I've never really seen Balboa Park. Looks like it's well worth a visit. My brother lives in Escondido, and one of my favorite places is the Wild Animal Park.

Thanks for taking us along on your visit.

This is great, John. I love the shots of the water garden plants too. I wish I could come and visit that park.

    Cheers,

The photo showing the two plants where you mentioned was "dimorphic"???

One of those orchids looks like a Masdevallia??? Am I right?

    Nice pics, John!

The first orchids reminds me of one of the artificial genera. Can't remember the actual name but the first letters were Burr. ?

Definitely 2 plants in that one pot. One is a Masdie, the other either a bulbo or another member of the pleuro alliance.

WOW! I live in San Diego and have been to Balboa park but never thought to into the Botanical gardens. I'm going to have to go and spend the day. Thank you.
Had to add this, another very nice Botanical garden is Quail Botanical gardens in north San Diego.
