Thanks!! We grow this one indoors all winter. It was only moved outdoors after the buds were set and the weather stopped freezing.

    Cheers,

I'm a tad envious, Bruce ... I'm planning on pitching my Clivia this year. I've had it at least 10 yrs (raised it from seed) and have never been able to get it to bloom. I apparently just can't give it the proper conditions.

Don't throw it out yet. It takes some time to get it to bloom. I don't know if this helps, but here is what we have done with this one.

Over the winter, around mid-October, we put it inside an un-heated room attached to our house in front of a window so that it gets light. The room gets down to the mid 30's but never freezes in there. We put all of the tropical trees, vines, and plants we grow on the porch in this room. I water them maybe once or twice during the winter months. Around mid-April, we move them outside onto the porch where they are shaded from afternoon sun by the house, but get mostly direct sunlight all the rest of the day. We fertilize with the time release fertilizer and water heavily at least once a week in the spring and almost every day in the heat of the summer.

The Clivia was a mature division when it was given to us. It did not bloom at all last year, but did the year after we first got it. This year, it put out two big bursts of blooms.

Yeah, don't throw it out yet. I have one that's bloomed twice a year for the past two years (spring and fall) that is not very big at all. It is indoors, so it doesn't experience any of the temperature swings that Bruce's does, and its conditions are far from fancy or involved. Mine gets medium-low to low light almost the entire year (only my Sansevierias or Snake Plants get less light), and its blooming is prompted when it gets a little bit of sun angling in during the season shift.

I don't know how you have it potted but you could try to reduce its pot size. I was told by some growers that have grown them a long time that they bloom best when underpotted, and so far that is working very well for me.

Bruce, well I live in an apt so there is no cold room to keep it in. I tried between a window and heavy curtain but that didn't work.

Derek, I've had it for many years in the conditions you mentioned to no avail. And it definitely is pot bound.

No, it has outlived my patience. I refuse to waste my precious limited space on a non-blooming plant that doesn't even have interesting foliage to recommend it.

I must admit that the spring is very beautiful and I'm glad that we share in all its beauty.
Linana, what you didn't know the name is Paeonia (Peony), here are some pics from from my last visit in our botanical garden: the first and the second are Peonia tenuifolia, the third is Paeonia wittmanniana and the last one Paeonia emodi.
