    Default Etlingera elatior

This plant is better known as the Ginger Torch. Big plants with large showy red flowers, sometimes a little on the orange side. It thrives in steamy, jungle-like conditions. Pictures were taken in my grandma's garden in Cotabato.

    thank you Randy and Mieczyslaw.

Yes Randy. I think they belong to the same family Zingiberaceae. It is also known as the Philippine Wax Flower. You'd need ample space though for these plants.

    Be my guest Randy ;-)

And the flowers last for so long, even as cut flowers.
There are other kinds though, some with brown flowers.

Very nice pictures Angel. Here in Malaysia it is a very important ingredient in some of our curries and especially in one of our popular curry noodle dish 'laksa.

Really Yew Sung? I never thought of this flower as food before. That is an interesting piece of information.

Thanks Pavel. The ginger family does have many different varieties all with exotic flora. The flowers are quite heavy though and one would need a substantial vase to keep them from toppling over.
