Default just a couple flowers from plants on my balconey

Cardinal vine (first created by successfully hybridizing Ipomoea coccinea and Ipomoea quamoclit) is a fast grower once it gets going. It hasn't flowered as profusely as I'd like but as it is in a pot, I might not be keeping watered well enough as my balconey gets terribly hot. Flowers are short lived ... only a day or two ... but the hummers like them. Oh and for those who are curious, the flowers really are as red as in the pictures.

    Default and another flower

A couple years back, Connie sent me some Datura seeds. They've been very slow growers for me (don't know if that is normal). I managed to overwinter a couple plants indoors last year so I actually got some flowers this summer. (Spider mites almost won the battle over the winter ......) Flowers are short lived once they fully open -- only lasting 2 or 3 days. Fortunately they are pretty in bud as well

Both are great, Paul. That red is intense. I bet you do get lots of humming birds with that growing there.

    Cheers,

Great photos Paul, I especially like the second pic of Cardinal vine and the color is remarkable. But... where is humming bird?

I love that Datura! Does it become fragrant after sunset?

Branka, I've onlyu seen a hummingbird a couple times this summer -- he tends to show up in the evening. I suspect that the location (3rd floor and not many other planted balconeys or patios in the comnplex) is part of the issue.

Hmmm, it never occurred to me to check, Gita. I'll have to remember to do so next time it blooms.
