Default Blue Jeans Poison Dart Frog

    Branka,

I keep 2 pairs of this small (2cm) species (Oophaga cf. typographa forma Blue jeans) in 2 terrariums.

In the terrariums here in captivity they donīt get toxic food so the frogs are not toxic. This species practises a unique kind of parental care.

I feed them with vitaminized fruit flies. I breed these flies myself. I am lucky to have a very tolerant wife.

Here some photos of adult animals.

Thank you Peter so much for posting these wonderful frogs, they are really lovely.
Recently I visited at an exhibition of exotic animals and I saw many similar frogs such as yours. I'm thinking about having Theloderma corticale, Vietnamese mossy frog in my orchidarium.
Tell me please - what did you mean with: this species practises a unique kind of parental care...

Cool flicks! I have always wanted some poison dart frogs!! I saw them one year at the Missouri Botanical Garden. I did not know that they are only poisonous because of their food. What is the food they eat in the wild, that makes them poisonous?...poisonous fruit flys??..HeHe.. just jokin. I am serious about my question.... thanks for the post!

    Cute little buggers!

Camille, I don't know if anyone has actually nailed down just what food item or items are necessary for poison production. If someone knows, I'll be very interested to find out what.
