    Default Staghorn

The one fern I grow on purpose. Others come in as spores on the orchid bark and start growing in the orchid pots--rabbit's foot fern, Boston fern-- but this one's deliberate.

Pic two is the underside of a female leaf, showing spores at the tips. For the longest time I thought this was developing fungus, and I sprayed and sprayed.... You can shake these down over an upside-down clay pot set in a saucer of water so it stays damp, and they'll sprout.

Nice. That's a greenhouse plant for sure. I don't know why or how people grow these in a house. For some reason I just can't picture one of those hanging on the living room wall.

Nice one, Louis... I've always wanted one of these. That looks like quite a nice size for it too.. must be a few years old. And those spores do look kinda fungus scary... good to know now that if and when I get one, I won't have to worry bout those growths...

    Cheers

Well we have been growing the staghorn beastie for awhile now and the spores finally made babies...

    Take a look...

We have about four of these that we have found. I will take them out of the cattleya pots and mount them as soon as they are bigger. I will probably put them up on OrchidBids for trade too cause we do not have the room for more of these monsters!

    Cheers!

My friend had these growing in his greenhouse, but they propagate like weeds. Can you imagine these growing instead of a little oxalis?
