Oh, now that is an unusual bloom. Are Gesneriads a type or relative of the African Violet? Looks similar? I like the blooms.

    Cheers,

Lovely flowers! I've thought about trying a Kohleria in one of my terrs, but the ones I have seen all get too large.

More accurately, african violets are a type of Gesneriad. So they are indeed relatives, Bruce. Some have leaves that are very similar in appearance to AVs.

Well, as I have never seen the term Gesneriad, I was simply guessing based on the leaf in the photo. Always learning.

    cheers,

Personally i would have asked if it was a relative of Gloxinia or Streptocarpus. The blooms resemble a cape primrose more..... But great guesswork Bruce, these are indeed very pretty flowers

Those are also Gesneriads, Jordan -- as are Lipstick Plant (Aeschynanthus), Goldfish Plant (Nematanthus), Flame Violet (Episcia), and Cupid's Bower (Achimenes).. So you would be quite correct in guessing that they would be related to kohlerias. Btw, the Gloxinia commonly found in cultivation is actually Sinningia speciosa as opposed to being a "true" gloxinia.
