    Smile A big beautiful noid

I really use to know the name of this night blooming plant, but have since lost trace of it. If anyone out there does know its full name that informative post would be appreciated by me. The flower is at least 8 inches and quite a piece of art. Very intricate bloom. ALName: A Beautiful Noid 002.JPG

Looks a lot like Epiphyllum grandilobum or one of its hybrids.

I have a Epiphyllum oxypetalum that looks real similar.

Beautiful plant, Al. If I find pictures I will send them to you to compare.

Thanks everybody for your identification help and comments. I sometimes miss seeing these blooms, so it was nice to catch a flower at its peak. AL

This flower is commonly called "The Midnight Cereus" , Botanical name Peniocereus greggii. Grows prolifically here in the Caribbean. The plant falls into the catagory of Cacti.
Magnificently beautiful, and highly scented flowers last for one night only. The buds will start to open around 9 p.m. and by midnight they are fully open filling the air with a wonderful scent. By morning they they have folded.
I had a fairly large plant at a previous residence and when I saw the buds forming I would pay close attention and when they were ready to open I would invite friends to dinner on that evening so that they would have the treat of seeing the blooms.
Easy to grow, being a cactus does not like to be overwatered.
    Enjoy.

I always seem to miss our cactus blooms too. The darn thing is so tall now that unless I notice the buds when they form, I usually don't get to enjoy the blooms. Your is pretty.

    cheers,
    BD

Default The Queen Of The Night, Long live the Queen (For a few hours anyway).

Just a few follow up pictures as per request. Three open blooms and two buds that may open tonite, though who knows at what time in the wee hours this might happen. I am enjoying the fragrance. ALName: Queen Of The Night 007.JPG
